Junior World Water Ski Championships

Mulwala - New South Wales, Australia. The 2012 Junior World Waterski Championships drew to a close this past weekend with perfect conditions at the Max Kirwin Water Ski Park.

Although held in 2013, these championships fall under the 2012 calendar as a bi-annual competition, the second of which towed under the exclusive official towboat agreement between MasterCraft and the International Water Ski and Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) Exceptionally well attended, these Championships attracted over 70 athletes representing 22 countries from every continent.

Towed by MasterCraft World Tournament Team Edition ProStar 197 tow boats, every day of competition saw new "personal best" performances from the young athletes across all disciplines including no less than three World Record's broken.

Erika Lang (USA) tricked an incredible score of 8990 breaking the current record by 440 points, a record that was also previously set behind a MasterCraft ProStar 197. This outstanding achievement resulted in Erika totalling 2862.45 points, also smashing the Junior Girls Overall record!

Joshua Briant of Australia then also went on to set a new Junior Overall record in Under 17 Boys with a total of 2919.93 points placing him in 1st Place as the new Junior Overall World Champion.

In the Under 17 Boys slalom event, Yiannis Nathanail from Greece came just one buoy away from beating a Junior World Record that has stood for 16 years, rounding 2 buoys on the 10.75 meter line, a remarkable achievement from this talented young athlete now crowned as the 2012 Junior World Slalom Champion.

As the final scores were counted and tallied up, the team results placed Canada in third and Australia in second, beaten only just by the USA who took the gold as Team Champions of the 2012 Junior World Waterski Championships.

Incredible skiing by an incredible group of athletes, with such great performances and world class sportsmanship, the future of tournament water skiing is looking extremely bright.
